Mikef Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 So my worst nightmare has come true, I have to fit a new dipped beam bulb on the passenger side of the Galaxy (2002 Tdi). I remember that the driver side took me an age, and the passenger side looks like it has major access issues... Any hints n tips on how to tackle it? My wife did ask the chap at the Ford garage, but they wanted Quote

edatelder Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 5 minute job - if you have a longish torx screwdriver to loosen the 3 or 4 retaining bolts to fully romove the headlight unit forwards. It's been covered on here before. Quote
Mikef Posted December 22, 2010 Author Report Posted December 22, 2010 Cheers Chaps...if I remove the headlight unit aren't I in danger of affecting the headlight alignment? I'll have a firtle about tomorrow thanks Quote

I'll have a firtle about tomorrow thanks Yes, but its SOOO much easier! However if you park up somewhere so the front faces a wall with about 4 or 5 feet gap then turn the lights on and chalk out where the passenger side headlight is alligned on the wall, you can then safely remove the assembly, change the lamp and refit using the chalk points for reference to align it all back up again  Quote
Mikef Posted December 23, 2010 Author Report Posted December 23, 2010 All done...managed to do it without removing the housing...I think the cold helped because I couldnt feel the pain in my fingers as I wrestled with the clips :-) Though now I notice that the sidelight has gone as well. I wish my wife would mention all of these things in one go... cheers all mikef Quote
Mirez Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Well sorted, sorry dim moment I actually thought it was the "passenger side light bulb" that had failed and not the passenger side, light bulb. lol Removal of the battery is the easier way of doing the N/S headlamp, but as above, removing the assembly is by far the easiest way of doing the side light. There is an "access flap" in both front wheel arches to get to both the sidelight and the indicator lamps, though quite who the access was designed for remains a mystery as it certainly wasn't a human arm! I've just spent ages (last week) replacing the passenger side-light bulb on my MK2 2003 2.3 Zetec....opening the flap was the easy part. Locating the 1" rectangular side-light twist housing was easy too...twisting it to remove it was a bug**r. I actually found that inserting the narrower end of the tool-kit supplied spanner ;) (from rear driver's side wheel cubbie hole) into the gap in the light-holder and twisting was easy...then reassembly was okay too, same method. Still have the wrist bruises from my previous bothched attempts though! Quote
